Robert John Thornton (1768-1837) war englischer Arzt und botanischer Schriftsteller. Bekannt wurde er für seine Werke "A New Illustration of the Sexual System of Carolus von Linnaeus" (1797-1807) und "The British Flora" (1812). - Wie immer ist die Zählung und Numerierung der Tafeln konfus und durcheinander. - Einbände beschabt und bestoßen, die Gelenke etwas lädiert. Mit hs. Besitzvermerk im Innendeckel, sonst nur minimal gebräunt.
